The Pina Colada is known for being one of those fruity, frilly drinks ordered poolside on hot summer days. Usually filled with canned or powdered ingredients the Wells’ ohana of Hanalei Spirits blends local ingredients with two of their own Kauai hand-crafted rums, making their signature pina colada recipe a genuinely island cocktail.
Hanalei Spirits partners with Kilauea Ag park and the Fehring Family Farm to procur fresh sugarloaf pineapple. Found inside the immaculate Hanalei Spirits distillery sits huge vats of beautifully refurbished equipment that turns ripe pineapple into delectable pineapple rum. Crafting liquor is a tedious and intense process of fermenting, mashing, brewing, and distilling yet despite the heavy work load you can tell the Wells family sincerely enjoy what they do.
Their newest venture has the Hanalei Spirits’ team harvesting fresh ingredients every Thursday from their family farm which surrounds the distillery. What was once old [sugar] canefields is now an incredibly diverse forest of native and rare trees, orchards, and gardens. Fresh mint, lilikoi, ginger, lemon, and limes grace the farm lands and make up the accoutrements for their ‘Bar in a Bag’. From the booze to the mixers to the garnishes, the ‘Bar in a Bag’ provides everything you need to make exceptional -and stiff!— drinks for pau hana Friday delivered right to your door. If you live on Kauai check out their weekly libation offerings! Delivery is free and the drinks are out of this world.
