Kinoole Farmers Market: Convenient Shopping and 100% Local!

The Kinoole Farmers Market (KFM) was started in 2006 with the collaboration and support of Hawaii County Farm Bureau’s Hilo, Hamakua, and Kohala chapters. The principal goal of the Kinoole Farmers’ Market is to support agriculture in Hawaii by providing a venue for Hawaii farmers to sell Hawaii grown food, horticulture, and value-added products. Now a sole cooperative organization, KFM still honors their mission by creating a market place for farmers and producers in Hilo. Customers can be sure they are buying from a farmer or producer on Hawaii Island.

Conveniently located at 1990 Kinoole Street, Hilo in the Kinoole Plaza parking lot, KFM offers easy, spacious parking, allowing shoppers a safe, stress free shopping experience.  This market is a treasure for those who value locally grown products. The market hours are 6:30 -11:00 a.m. perfect for early risers! These farmer vendors offer the freshest, most beautiful fruits and vegetables available. Shoppers will also find delight in the amazing array of horticultural offerings such as anthurium, orchids, vegetable and herb starts as well as landscaping plants.

Shoppers and vendors alike are quite fond of this farmers market.  Every farmers market has its own band of loyal supporters and this market is no different!

“this market is close to where I live and I love supporting the farmer vendors here.  It’s a spacious market that makes my weekly visit feel comfortable and safe.” With plenty of space between booths, KFM offers shoppers a safer shopping experience.

One beloved vendor John Drummond of Our Daily Knead Bread says “I’ve been vending here for many years and I love that only producer/vendors are allowed.”  His repeat customers appreciate that his breads are baked in a wood fired oven. He explained that his breads have a unique flavor thanks to the lychee and rambutan wood he uses from his own orchard to fuel the oven. The wood imparts a wonderful, rich aroma, not found in other bread. John and his wife also produce chocolate from their own cacao trees. His small batch, locally grown and produced chocolate is sure to please the most discerning chocolate lover.

There’s also plenty of delicious, ready to go hot food, locally grown coffee and tea available to help make your weekend and the week ahead special. Before you leave the market, make sure to stop by and say hello to Jon Tanouye of Green Point Nurseries and buy a fresh bouquet of anthurium for your hale or to give to a friend.

The market gladly accepts SNAP/EBT. Just look for the manager’s booth near the anthurium booth in the front corner of the market.
