This Bloody Mary recipe gets an added boost from Hanalei Spirits Taro Vodka— a delightful liquor that creates a new avenue for local farmers to sell their taro. Staying true to their passion for supporting local and respecting Kauai’s natural resources, the Hanalei Spirits family buys organically grown taro exclusively from north shore farmers— the furthest they source for their main vodka ingredient is approximately 9 miles away.
Sourcing from the old lo’i of Hanalei gives the Hanalei Spirits team a sense of pride and place. Owners Grant and Vindi Wells both spoke fondly of the love they have for the wonderful place they grew up. The distilling process from start to finish is very labor intensive. For any small-craft distillery, excellence is the standard and literally bottling the heart of every run to fill each bottle of taro vodka guarantees an extremely high quality product. Before the bottles hit the shelves they have to be washed, filled, corked, and labeled all by hand! A true labor of love crafted by a truly loving family.
Treat yourself to a bottle of Hanalei’s finest and cheers to your farmers good fortunes with this recipe! A tasty any-time-of-the-day drink that can easily be customized with your favorite garnishes. Hanalei Spirits suggests some deluxe toppings when you’re feeling fancy; shrimp skewers, a slice of crispy bacon, celery stalks, pickle spears, olives, pepperoncini, and cherry tomatoes all make great additions to an already luscious drink.
