Tucked away amid the green pastures of Parker Ranch in the beautiful town of Waimea, this Wednesday morning farmers market has all the elements needed to create a successful start to the day. It’s a pleasure to shop here at the Waimea Midweek Market, the vendors and management are friendly and the selection of produce, value-added products, and services is amazing. This charming market has been a Waimea treasure since it began in 2011.
The Waimea Midweek Market is located at the historic Pukalani Stables owned by Parker Ranch. For over 50 years this stable housed the ranch’s famous quarter horse breeding program. Although no longer in operation as a stable, visitors can still see reminders of the town’s rich cowboy past at the Paniolo Heritage Center located inside the stables. For paniolo history enthusiasts this is an added bonus and makes for a fun market experience. The museum is always open during market hours and is free of charge.
Vendors replace horses at stalls that are set under a covered walkway along the former stables. Shoppers will find an amazing array of fresh and seasonal produce, much of it grown in the Waimea area. Freshly harvested corn, cabbage, strawberries, and tomatoes. Along with a wide assortment of greens, herbs, root vegetables, pipinola, green beans, fruits and more. There is also a beautiful selection of local honey, jams, and goat cheese. The iconic big island coffee cozies up with locally grown chocolate, fresh eggs, meat and gourmet baked goods that make a trip to the grocery store a thing of the past.
Exquisite jewelry, flowers, and pottery make wonderful gifts for friends and family. There is also folk art, luscious body care products, and three awesome food trucks that round out the treasures and pleasures that await you at this market. Besides the fabulous produce and value-added products, this market also has onsite services such as sewing repairs and alterations, knife sharpening, aura reading and photography.
The vendors are the farmers, producers and artisans; experts who take pride in offering the highest quality products to their customers. An extensive online ordering menu is also available with curbside pickup at the market making it even easier to shop if you’re on-the-go or just wanting to avoid crowds.
